Jean Duvet.....FRANCIA

Orfebre francés y grabador. Era el hijo de Drouhot Duvet, un orfebre activo en Dijon al final de 15to siglo y el principio del 16to. Se le admitió como orfebre del maestro en Dijon en 1509, pero la mayor parte de su carrera estaba en Langres. A partir de 1540 en adelante vivió en Ginebra, donde trabajó para el ayuntamiento y se podría haber hecho por lo tanto un protestante.

Su grabado más temprano es una Anunciación de 1520 que es del estilo italiano puro. Su Juicio de Solomon, sin fecha pero probablemente temprano, está basado en el dibujo animado de Raphael de Elymas el Hechicero. Estos y otros trabajos tempranos llevan a la conclusión que debe haber visitado Italia y haber visto los trabajos de Raphael y sus contemporáneos.

Mammes en 1524 para la Catedral Langres, ha vendido una palangana damasquinada a Francis I en 1528 cuando el Rey visitó Dijon y haber hecho varios otros trabajos.

French goldsmith and engraver. He was the son of Drouhot Duvet, a goldsmith active in Dijon at the end of the 15th century and the beginning of the 16th. He was admitted as a master goldsmith in Dijon in 1509, but most of his career was in Langres. From 1540 onwards he lived in Geneva, where he worked for the city council and might therefore have become a Protestant.

His earliest dated engraving is an Annunciation of 1520 which is of pure Italian style. His Judgement of Solomon, undated but probably early, is based on Raphael's cartoon of Elymas the Sorcerer. These and other early works leads to the conclusion that he must have visited Italy and seen the works of Raphael and his contemporaries.

It is in the twenty-four engravings illustrating the Apocalypse that Duvet's full imaginative power is seen. Apart from the Apocalypse the most famous engravings by Duvet are the Unicorn series, which may be dated to the 1540s.

He is known to have participated in the preparation of the decorations for the entry of Francis I into Langres in 1521, and he designed and directed the decorations and floats for the entry of Francis in 1533. Nothing remains of his work as a goldsmith, but he is known to have completed a reliquary bust of St Mammes in 1524 for Langres Cathedral, to have sold a damascened basin to Francis I in 1528 when the King visited Dijon and to have made a number of other works.

Engraver of Dutch crystal, was an elder daughter of the merchant of Amsterdam and the poet Roemer Visscher, sister of Maria Tesselschade. The Visscher family was between the cultural elite of the day. They taught to Anna and its sisters languages, embroidery, drawing and doing. As other women in more refined circles, also were calligraphers carried out and crystal engravers. In particular one considers for its crystal engraving of the diamond point. It must have recorded numerous glasses, nevertheless, only five signed examples have survived.

Also, Anna Roemers Visscher had an apparent interest in books of the emblem, when he translated to thirteen Dutch epigrams of Emblèmes de Georgette of Montenay, the ou designs chrestiennes of 1584. Also he contributed the poetry to the book of the emblem of 1618, Silenus Alcibiadis, Sive Proteus for Jacob Cats.

Grabador de cristal holandés. Como su padre antes de él se hizo un comerciante. Después de que su negocio textil quebró le ofrecieron posiciones prestigiosas en varios gremios. Además de su trabajo, también escribió poemas y aprendió por su cuenta caligrafía y aplicó su talento en esta dirección a cristal así como papel. Como un calígrafo del maestro y grabador de cristal era excepcionalmente productivo y decoró gafas de bebida, botellas y bolas de cristal.

Dutch glass engraver. Like his father before him he became a merchant. After his textile business went bankrupt he was offered prestigious positions in various guilds. Besides his work, he also wrote poems and taught himself calligraphy and applied his talent in this direction to glass as well as paper. As a master calligrapher and glass engraver he was exceptionally productive and decorated drinking glasses, bottles and glass bowls.
