Aúnque se la conoce en todo el mundo como la Catedral de San Basilio, su nombre original es Catedral POKROVSKIY, erigida a instancia del Zar Iván "El Terrible", para conmemorar la victoria del pueblo ruso sobre los Tártaros, y la conquista de Kazán, fue terminada en 1561. Su extructura se compone de 9 iglesias, cubiertas por otras tantas cúpulas con su característica forma acebollada. Sobre ella se narra una terrible leyenda, en efecto, se dice que cuando el Zar la vio acabada, quedó tan maravillado, que ordeno dejar ciegos a sus constructores para que ya no pudiesen repetir esa maravilla.
