Acabo de termina de leer este libro hace poco. Un espectacular ensayo periodístico, claro, objetivo, veraz, e incluso aterrador, aterrador por la dureza de la situación, y el aguante de los españoles ante esas circunstancias. El autor hace un recorrido profundo, exhaustivo y excelentemente documentado sobre todos los aspectos de la vida cotidiana de los españoles en esa época, aspectos sociales, económicos, religiosos, políticos, culturales, éticos....
Aúnque sin duda, al margen de los desastres económicos y sociales originados por el periodo de posguerra, el lado censor eclesial pre-conciliar era terrible, pues ese aspecto se introdujo en la mentalidad de los españoles, hasta un nivel afixiante visto desde la perspectiva de hoy en día.
Sin embargo, tal como el autor define a lo largo de los capítulos de su obra, hay un rasgo característico que se da en todos los casos, algo que nos hace dignos herederos del Lazarillo de Tormes, me refiero a la "picaresca", o el arte de intenta sobrevivir tratando de engañar al prójimo. Una característica muy ibérica, que aflora con toda su crudeza en los momentos difíciles y complicados, pero como también afloran otras de connotaciones mas benevolentes, como el trabajo, el esfuerzo, la constancia y el sacrificio.
Indudablemente, los españoles somos un genio de la originalidad cuando pensamos solos, o estamos solos, nada se interpone en el camino, al igual que somos un autentico desastre para trabajar en grupo, y coordinar acciones conjuntas, las nuestras , las personales de cada individuo son las mejores....idiosincrasia ibérica.
I have just stopped reading this book not long ago. A spectacular journalistic, clear, objective, truthful, and even frightening, frightening essay for the hardness of the situation, and the endurance of the Spanish before these circumstances. The author does a deep, exhaustive trip excellently documented on all the aspects of the everyday life of the Spanish in this epoch, social, economic, religious, political, cultural, ethical aspects....

Nevertheless, as the author defines along the chapters of its work, there is a typical feature that happens in all the cases, something that makes us worth heirs of Lazarillo de Tormes, I refer of the "picaresque novel", or the art to survive trying to cheat the neighbor. A very Iberian characteristic, which outcrops with all its crudeness in the difficult and complicated moments, but since also others outcrop of connotations more benevolentes, like the work, the effort, the steadfastness and the sacrifice.
Undoubtedly, the Spanish we are a genius of the originality when we think alone, or we are alone, nothing intervenes in the way, as we are an authentic disaster to be employed at group, and to coordinate joint actions, our own ones, personnels of every individual sound the best.... Iberian idiosyncrasy.
