André Previn

Compositor sinfónico, camerístico y operístico, es también autor de algunas bandas sonoras para el cine, director de orquesta, pianista clásico y de jazz, lo mismo se le encuentra al frente de la Orquesta Filarmonica de Viena abordando a Richard Strauss, que tocando jazz al piano, o interpretando música de cámara de Mozart junto a algún prestigioso cuarteto de cuerda. Previn se siente tan a gusto con Kiri Te Kanawa como con Ray Brown, al igual que en Estados Unidos tocando música de Gershwin o en el Reino Unido dirigiendo música de Sibelius.

Nacido en Berlin en 1929 como Andreas Ludwig Priwin, tiene la nacionalidad estadounidense desde 1943. Empezó su formación musical en Berlin y la continuó en París. En 1939 se estableció en Estados Unidos con su familia, huyendo del nazismo y allí descubrió el Jazz que le fascinó de inmediato. Con el tiempo, se convirtió en uno de los mejores pianistas de este estilo musical de todo el mundo. 

En San Francisco fue discípulo de Pierrre Monteaux, quién le formó como director de orquesta, y en 1963 debutó al frente de la orquesta sinfónica de San Luis. Desde entonces ha sido titular de formaciones como la Sinfónica de Houston, - donde sucedió a John Barbirolli-, la Sinfónica de Londres, entre 1968 y 1979, y la Sinfónica de Pittsburg entre 1976 y 1984, además de mantener una relación privilegiada con la Royal Philharmonic Orchestra de Londres a lo largo de muchos años, y de la que fuera nombrado Director permanente en 1985.

De esta orquesta, ha sido ademas Director titular entre 1988 y 1992. Tambien ha mantenido y mantiene relaciones de afecto, que se traducen en trabajos musicales de máximo nivel, con formaciones tan importantes como la Filarmónica de Nueva York, y la Filarmónica de Viena.
