Menendez Pelayo, reducía la filosofia española del siglo XIX a dos nombres: Donoso Cortes y Jaime Balmes. Aunque yo creo que tras leer sus obras, se podría estar de acuerdo con el si se limitara a hablar de filosofía conservadora, anti liberal y tradicionalista. Aunque no es el caso exactamente, porque al leer sus obras a fondo, Balmes se enfrentó al relativismo o escepticismo que los tradicionalistas contrarios a las revoluciones modernas identifican con un liberalismo que por carecer de principios fuertes, de ideas fijas, favorece el triunfo del ideario socialista.
Me gusta este libro, porque es una invitacion a la reflexión sobre los medios para conocer la verdad en las cosas, en la realidad. Yo lo definiria como un realismo premoderno porque hace compatible la irreductible pluralidad con la unidad., pues aspira a conocer al hombre entero y relacionar todas sus facultades.
