Psique

La joven, vaga por el mundo consternada, vagaa por el mundo en busca de Cupido hasta llegar a la casa de Venus. Una vez alli se convierte en la esclava de la diosa, quien le asigna toda una serie de tareas casi imposible. Pero Psique es afortunada, unas hormigas la ayudan a separar un montón de trigo, un junco de las aguas sagradas le dice como obtener la lana dorada de las peligrosas ovejas, el águila de júpiter acude en su ayuda cuando va a recoger agua de un riachuelo custodiado por dragones, y una torre la asiste en su viaje, hasta el Hades para coger algo de la belleza de Proserpina.

 Por fin , Cupido le suplica a Júpiter que se apiade de Psique, los dioses y deciden darle a Psique una copa de nectar para hacerla inmortal. Se organiza una gran fiesta para celebrar el enlace de la pareja y , al final, Psique acaba dándole a Cupido una hija, Placer.

La historia de esta encantadora pareja era un relato romántico muy popular. Sus numerosos episodios y la escena final de la boda se usaban a menudo para cubrir grandes extensiones murales o bien para llenar las múltiples bóvedas de un techo.
