El feroz Minotauro, fue concebido cuando Parsifae, esposa del Rey Minos de Creta, se apareo con un toro. Tenía el cuerpo de un hombre, y la cabeza de un toro, lo mantuvieron en un laberinto, en el que cada 9 años se enviaban a 7 jovenes y 7 doncellas para su sacrificio. Finalmente el heroe Teseo, se ofrecio como víctima y dio muerte a la temida bestia: Logró escapar con la ayuda de un ovillo de bramante que le habia dado Ariadna, la hija de Minos. En pintura, la mítica criatura, representa los institntos animales del hombre, como la lujuria.
