Tetis

Estaba profetizado que Tetis, la mas bella de todas la Nereidas, tendría un hijo que superaría a su padre. Cuando Júpiter le ordeno que se casara con Peleo, la joven trató de evitar la unión convirtiéndose en pájaro, en árbol y en un tigre, pero Peleo la poseyó a la fuerza, en su boda, la Discordia tiró una manzana dorada, como premio para la mas bella de las Diosas mayores presentes: Venus, Minerva y Juno. 

Esta acción dio pié al celebre juicio de París, que a su vez desembocó en la guerra de Troya. Aquiles, héroe de esa guerra, era hijo de Tetis y Peleo, la Iliada de Homero, cuenta como fue insultado por el Rey griego Agamenon , y como Tetis salió de las profundidades del mar, hasta la casa de los dioses, en el Olimpo, para pedirle a Júpiter que vengara a su hijo. Tambien le pidió a Vulcano, dios de la fragua que le hiciera a Aquiles una magnífica armadura.
